The Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Environment will be sharing new headquarters at the Luperon Avenue intersection with Jose Contreras Avenue, once the building is completed. Construction is said to be at an advanced stage. Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia said that the Ministry of Environment would occupy the first two floors, and Tourism would be on the third and fourth floor. He mentioned that the current Ministry of Tourism offices opposite the Presidential Palace measure 3,000 square meters in total. The new third and fourth floor facility would mean 12,000 square meters of space, as each floor covers 6,000 square meters.
Javier Garcia said that the decision to share the location is part of a strategy to encourage coordination between the two institutions, combining the preservation of natural resources with the implementation of tourism investment projects.
Javier Garcia is President Leonel Fernandez’s former presidential campaign manager. He has also served as Minister of Industry and Commerce.
