1.83 meter tall Miss Dominican Republic 2009, Ada Aimee de la Cruz placed among the 10 semi-finalists of the 2007 Miss World pageant held in China. The 23-year old will now represent the DR in the Miss Universe competition scheduled for Nassau, Bahamas on 23 August. Globalbeauties.com, a leading website covering international beauty pageants, calls De la Cruz “a front-runner” for the Miss Universe crown.
De la Cruz in 2007 also was chosen the Miss World Beach Beauty, Miss Photogenic and Best Smile. She has modeled internationally, participating in events such as the Miami Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week and Dominicana Moda. She is a graduate of accounting from the state university, UASD.
Global Beauties explains that during the 2007 Miss World pageant, De la Cruz broke a record with the bookmakers, getting a top spot in all of them until she was tied by Miss China, the eventual winner. The website says that she could “very strongly” become the DR’s second Miss Universe titleholder. Amelia Vega was chosen in 2003.
De la Cruz was selected to represent the DR at Miss Universe at an event held at the Sans Souci Port facilities in Santo Domingo on 17 May. She grew up in Villa Mella to the north of the capital, but chose to represent her grandparents’ province, San Jose de Ocoa in the event.
