DR Fashion Week

37 Dominican designers will be presenting their resort and pre-fall collections during the DR Fashion Week set for 2-6 June at the convention hall of the Sans Souci Port on the east bank of the Ozama River in Santo Domingo. The event is part of several that are as of late turning the Dominican Republic into the fashion destination of the Caribbean.

International designers Custo Barcelona (Barcelona), Gustavo Arango (Colombia), Ruben Campos (Chile), Armando Mafud (Mexico), Mariano Toledo (Argentina), Andres Aquino (USA), Rucht D’Oleo (USA) and David Antonio (Puerto Rico) are also coming for the Dominican Republic Fashion Week. Also participating is the European Institute of Design (IED).

New local designers participating in the event are Alicia Dalmau, Miguel Genao, Liz Mendez, Cesarina Castro, Teresa Berroa, Juan Pablo Pappaterra, Marethe Ferreira, Oriett Domenech, Zulia Lestrad, Benito Antonio and a collective of graduate students of the state university of Santo Domingo (UASD) and the Mercy Jaquez Design Institute. Tita Hasbun, organizer of the event, speaks enthusiastically about the renown designers and new designers that are coming together for the event.

Local designers Magaly Tiburcio, Giannina Azar, Marisol Henriquez, Robert Flores, Esteban Martinez, Arcadio Diaz, Diany Mota de Victoria, Jenny Polanco, Martin Polanco, Jorge David, Solange Sagredo, Laura Alvarez, Gabriela Alvarez and Luisian Victoria will be participating. Others are Sanchez & Dominguez, Damaris Taveras, Iris Guaba, Miguel Paulino, Edita Garcia, Glenny Hernandez, Cromcin Dominguez, Eillen Moreno, Luisa Cuevas, Laura Alvarez, Ana Amelia Alvarez, Carla Carbonell, Jacqueline Then, Moldesta Castillo and Larissa Salcedo.

One of the highlights of the event is the expected participation of several top models, including Omahira Mota, Teresa Wajdowics, Yilda Santana, Rosa Gouch and Jeimy Hernandez. During the event, Dominican coveted international modeling star Arlenis Sosa will be honored.

In addition to Tita Hasbun, other event organizers are Jorge Diep, Alex mMacias, Reynaldo Bisono, Angel Garden, Aleyda Abreu, Solange Sagredo and Billy Hasbun.
