Chile and DR aviation deal

President Leonel Fernandez has sent to the Senate an aviation agreement with Chile that grants reciprocal rights to the sixth-freedom rights to fly passengers between Chile and the DR and the seventh-freedom rights for cargo flights.

Once passed by the Senate, the agreement will enable both Chile and the DR to carry passengers from a second country to a third by stopping in one’s own country (sixth-freedom right). As part of seventh-freedom right, carriers from both countries may carry cargo between two foreign countries without continuing service to one’s own country.

The agreement was signed on 3 April and will go into effect 60 days after both countries ratify the agreement.
