Bavaro Runners launched its Caribbean VIP Safari this July in time for the summer peak tourist season. This is the same company that introduced the very successful Ziplines Adventure side trip for travelers to the Punta Cana area two years ago.
Javier Ortiz Golibart, marketing manager, says the company particularly had in mind repeat travelers, who return to Punta Cana already have enjoyed one of their excursions.
The Caribbean VIP Safari is a premium excursion that combines culture with nature. Tourists visit Higuey and its La Altagracia Basilica, the largest cathedral in the Caribbean, for a cultural immersion. On the program also is a visit to a sponsored school, and to a typical country home to sample Caribbean fruits, roasted coffee, and cacao.
Tourists also visit the El Gato town from where they board a riverboat for enjoying a grilled lobster and fresh fish lunch while observing the majesty of Chavon River. They are shown the river sites where scenes of the Apocalypse Now and Rambo II were filmed.
The safari also takes tourists through the fields of Central Romana Corporation, the largest sugar cane plantation in the country, with a stop to taste freshly cut sugar cane. The excursion is also an opportunity to learn about Dominican tobacco, its traditions and see first hand how cigars are made. There is even time for a plunge into the river. Tourists travel on board 18-passenger trucks when on land.
