RD$94 billion in pension funds

The national pension fund has a total of RD$94.3 billion, of which RD$67.8 billion corresponds to individual capitalization funds. The funds are managed by 5 pension fund management companies (AFPs). According to the Superintendence of Pension Plans, the AFP Popular and Scotia Crecer AFP account for 64.8% of all pension plan affiliates.

The funds have been collected over a 6-year period. In December 2003, the fund was at RD$6.8 billion.

Employees contribute 99.4% of the total to the fund. The funds currently represent 6% of the Gross Domestic Product. By 2016, the funds are expected to total 18% of the Gross Domestic Product.

The Superintendence says that 19% of affiliates live in Santo Domingo, and 13.7% live in Santiago.

The funds generate a yield of approximately 10-13%.
