All the members of gang of drug traffickers, made up of 7 men and led by 2 police corporals, were arrested over the weekend in the city of Bani with 5 packages of cocaine, 5 guns, 7 bulletproof vests and clothing that identified them as belonging to the National Drug Control Department, according to DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebron.
The gang was picked up driving a Toyota 4Runner bearing an official license plate. The plate had been reported stolen some time ago.
Apparently, the gang was heading to Fundacion, a town in Peravia province, to make some transaction, since they were found to be carrying a large sum of money – which has not yet been certified as legal currency – together with packages of newspaper clippings, cut to the size of paper money.
