With the addition of a call from the National Young Entrepreneurs Association (ANJE) to extend the deadline for changing the format of bank checks, the DR business and industrial sector unanimously want a postponement. Business leaders are calling for the current April deadline for the implementation of the new system to be extended till September.
ANJE president Miguel Roig told Hoy newspaper that there are still a lot of misconceptions and ignorance about the planned changes in the way checks are printed and used. Although ANJE is in agreement with the changes, it argues that the general public has not been well informed about the process.
ANJE is joined by the National Organization of Trade Enterprises (ONEC), the Dominican Traders Federation (FDC), the Hardware Association, and the Association of Industries of the North Region (AIREN).
However, the Dominican Banking Association (ABA) says that the printing of the new checks is following the critical path laid out by the monetary authorities and that things are going smoothly. The new checks will have security measures that comply with international standards.
