Less water entering the Santo Domingo aqueduct system means less water for the people. The Santo Domingo Sewer and Aqueduct Corporation (CAASD) says it is renting dozens of tank trucks to distribute water in the poorer barrios of the capital, to compensate for the low supply of water from the Haina-Manoguayabo system.
Supervisor Arsenio Terrero said that the CAASD was sending water to Los Alcarrizos, Pantoja, La Altagracia, and Cafe de Herrera, and other areas of the northeast of the city.
Until last week the system had reduced its flow of water to the city by more than 42 million gallons a day, which is equal to more than 55% of all the water the city needs. Other, lesser sources of water, such as the Isa-Mana resource, have fallen off by over 60%.
Even the water station over by the Quisqueya Baseball Stadium has had to use a pump to fill the tank trucks since there is not enough pressure in the pipes.
