“Beware the Ides of March.” Lisandro Macarrulla, the head of the National Council of Business (CONEP), warned yesterday that money laundering is hurting formal business activities. He called upon the authorities to continue their efforts in the struggle against drug trafficking. Macarrulla said that the easy money from money laundering provides a competitive advantage against the people who work within the framework of the law.
Macarrulla was interviewed by Pablo McKinney on the weekly program “De la Semana.” He said the CONEP is backing all of the efforts being made to stem the appearance of this money that is displacing formal financial transactions. He acknowledged there is a lot of illicit money in the construction industry.
