Four men wearing hooded tops and heavily armed assaulted the casino of the Hotel Melia Santo Domingo on the Malecon. Reports are that they stole RD$2.6 million and took with them a check for more than US$86,000 and other valuables. Hoy reports the versions are the men arrived around 7am and parked near the casino before entering to rob. They were driving a Toyota Camry, without a license plate. Reportedly, a video shows the robbery as it occurred.
The police suspect an insider job. The investigators say a video showed the scene of one moment in the robbery, when one of the three thieves tried to open a box, another shouted “leave it, there is nothing in that one”.
