Three 2-megawatt emergency plants were installed at Las Americas International Airport on Monday to supply power to the south terminal. Power service at the terminal, which handles most of the airport’s passenger traffic, was cut off on Sunday when an underground high-tension cable failed.
The south terminal has now resumed its flight checking operations. Airport management body Aerodom says there were no flight cancellations, only delays. Airport personnel had to check in the flights manually.
The blackout affected the computers, elevators, escalators and air conditioning at the terminal.
Power was restored at the north terminal on Monday and flights were dispatched through that area of the airport.
Aerodom said the blackout did not affect landing and take-off operations, which are powered by separate circuits. Aerodom says that airplane and passenger safety was never at risk.
