Lawyer and political scientist Pedro Catrain is being promoted as an option for those who are disillusioned with the business of politics, as reported in 7dias.com.do
Catrain is running for deputy for the No. 1 Circumscription in the National District (Santo Domingo). He is running on the Dominicans for Change (Dominicanos por el Cambio) party ticket. The party is headed by Eduardo Estrella, a former presidential candidate who served as minister of public works during the Balaguer administration. Catrain spoke out against the “barrilito,” the slush funds that legislators receive to “help” their constituents.
At an event held at the Citizen Participation offices in Santo Domingo, Catrain pledged that he would not repeat the practices of the majority parties.
Also present at the event were representatives of the Centro Juan Montalvo and Foro Ciudadano, which are supporting Catrain’s bid, together with his political team members Alexis Alvarez, Pedro Pablo Yermenos and Juan Miguel Perez.
