Record in cement

The Dominican Republic is the Latin American country with the largest per capita installed capacity of cement. The country has an index of 0.65 metric tons per inhabitant, compared to Mexico that follows with 0.48 metric tons. Some US$1,000 million is invested in the industry in the DR, or 32% of all direct foreign investment from 1993-2008.

Spokesmen for the Association of Dominican Portland Cement Producers told Hoy that the installed capacity of the cement industry in the DR is 6 million metric tons. Demand in 2009 totaled 2.8 million metric tons. The industry says it is ready to respond to demand through the next 20 years.
