Wage increase for physicians

Vice President Rafael Alburquerque and Health Minister Bautista Rojas announced a preliminary agreement was reached with union representatives of around 15,000 public hospital doctors. The Ministry agreed to an over-the-board 30% increase in wages. Wages would go up 20% with the signing of the agreement, and 10% more at the start of 2011.

Rojas has maintained a position that increases should be pegged to productivity. As reported in El Dia, the 20% would be covered by a supplementary budget for RD$30 million the President would send for approval to Congress.
