Ubaldo Jimenez’s no-hitter

Dominican Ubaldo Jimenez became the first to throw a no-hitter for the Colorado Rockies in 18 years, a 4-0 victory over the Braves at Turner Field in Atlanta. He threw 128 pitches and finished with seven strikeouts and six walks. “Before the ninth, I was like, ‘What can I do? I’m going to ask God to give me strength to keep going,’ ” Jimenez told MLB news. “Keep pounding the strike zone, make them swing the bat, and it could probably happen. It was a long way to get to the ninth inning,” he said.

The Denver Post reports: “Regardless of how the rest of his career plays out, he will forever be remembered as the first Rockies pitcher to throw a no-hitter. In a stunning performance, Jimenez overcame early wildness to maul the Atlanta Braves in a 4-0 victory that left a crowd of 32,602 in respectful silence”.
