Santiago and its “typical music”

Santo Domingo and Punta Cana may have their Hard Rock Cafes and large venues for foreign artists from the world over, but Santiago crowds prefer their “typical music” halls. In the past these were thatched roof venues, but today increasing demand for the fast-paced music dance halls has attracted investors who have built air-conditioned palaces with capacity for crowds of more than 1,000, while trying to preserve their country-like feel.

Check out Monte Bar, Rancho Tipico Las Colinas, Andy Ranch, Las Vegas and the Casino in Villa Gonzalez where this traditional music is kept alive. Admission ranges from RD$200 to RD$600 depending on the featured band.
