US$30 million for new PUJ runway

The busiest airport in the Caribbean is getting bigger and better. With the most flights from more destinations worldwide, the new runway that is under construction at Punta Cana International Airport will come into service for April 2011. With a length of 10,200 feet, the runway will be a model for Caribbean airports with state-of-the-art equipment.

In 2009, Punta Cana International received 58% of the DR’s tourist arrivals. The airport has handled up to 325 weekly flights in high season (Christmas and summer) and 200 flights a week in normal months. As many as 90 flights are known to arrive on Saturdays alone.
