Santo Domingo Merengue Festival

The 43rd Santo Domingo Merengue Festival is set for 30 and 31 July and 1 of August at the Plaza Juan Baron of the Malecon. Dancing to live music starts at 7pm with the nightly performances of the folklore ballet of the Ministry of Tourism.

Performing this year are Johnny Ventura, Eddy Herrera, Tono Rosario, Pena Suazo, Rafely, Ramon Orlando, Tito Swing, Rubby Perez. Guest performer from Puerto Rico is Jessica Cristina.

There will be a special segment of music by Cuco Valoy with the musical direction by Ramon Orlando and the participation of Henry Garcia.

The grass roots musicians playing typical merengue this year will be El Prodigio, Wilman Pena, Banda Real.

This year, during the Festival, there will be recognitions to the late composer Luis Kalaff and to Angel Miolan, first director of Tourism.
