As part of the celebration of Santo Domingo 2010 American Capital of Culture, the Fundacion Palm, a group of architects that seek to create a local awareness of our architectural heritage, has prepared 5 Architectural Routes of Santo Domingo from August to December.
The first tour of the Colonial City was praised as mind-opening by all attending. It was guided by architect Jose Enrique Delmonte and Risoris Silvestre of the Ministry of Culture. The same tour will be held again on 10 October and 19 December. The next of the city architecture tours is the Gazcue tour, on 15 August (also on 24 Oct). A third Contemporary Santo Domingo Tour is scheduled for 29 August and 14 November. Another of the Periphery of Santo Domingo, is scheduled for 12 September and that of the city’s High Rises will be on 19 Sept and 12 December. You need to book your tour with a week in advance, and these cost RD$500.
