DR makes top 10 for Russian tourists

The Dominican Republic is the 9th most popular destination for Russian tourists, according to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) and Rosturizm (Russian Federal Agency of Tourism). According to the experts, a record number of Russian tourists are forecast to go on holiday abroad in this summer season 2010.

Tops in popularity for Russian tourists are Turkey, Egypt, Spain, Greece, Thailand, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Tunisia (tied for 7th), Montenegro and Croatia (tied for 8th), the DR and Czech Republic.

As reported, in June the number of Russian tourists increased by 20% in European countries, compared to a decline of 15-18% last year. The highest growth of Russian tourist flow is on the Maldives (+80%), Thailand (+70%) and in Cuba (+50%).

Preliminary estimates of ATOR say that more than 5 million Russian citizens chose to spend their holidays abroad. More than half went to Egypt and Turkey.
