Architectural Tours

To mark the celebration of Santo Domingo American Capital of Culture, a second round of architectural tours begins on 10 October. The first of five tours that enable participants to appreciate the history, culture and sociological development of Santo Domingo through its architecture will cover the Colonial City. The specialized tour guides include leading Dominican architects and professors of architecture at leading universities.

The Colonial City tour features a glance at the treasures of Calle El Conde. Other tours that follow are dedicated to the Gazcue neighborhood (24 October), Contemporary Architecture (14 November) or architecture from 1960-2010. Others are the Borders of the City (28 November), which looks into the large developments of Arroyo Hondo and Mirador del Sur, and the Route of the Towers (12 December), with visits to some of the city’s leading skyscrapers. The Colonial City route will be repeated for a third time on 19 December.

All tours take place on Sunday, departing at 10am from specified points. Tickets are RD$500 and must be bought by the preceding Friday morning at Arbaje Tours, Tel 809 535-4941. The organizers, the Erwin Walter Palm Foundation promise that after taking these tours the city will never look the same again.
