PEPFAR to donate US$85 million

The US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief has announced a donation of US$85 million for AIDS relief in the DR through the Trade Attache at the local embassy. This is part of a five-year plan that provides the framework for the fight against AIDS in this country. The formal announcement came during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace. The announcement was made by Trade Attache Christopher Lambert who said that the donation was being coordinated through a group of ministers headed by the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Temistocles Montas. The US$85 million will be distributed over a period of five years and will provide technical and material support for the national response to HIV/AIDS.
