Tax collections up

The Department of Taxes (DGII) has announced that collections are up by 8.1% for January-October 2010 compared to the same period last year. The DGII has collected RD$153.9 billion for the period. As reported in Diario Libre, the increase is due to more sales tax receipts. Sales tax receipts were up 12.5%, or approximately RD$11.1 billion. The DGII, nevertheless, is 4.1% behind in its tax receipts estimates for this year. The difference is attributed to reduced petrol tax receipts, and declines in taxation on company yield.
