Baseball Roundup

Last night in the Quisqueya Stadium “eternal rivals” Licey and Escogido met once more to fight for the “City Championship”. This time the Tigres del Licey defeated the Leones del Escogido by a score of 7-3 behind the solid pitching of Cesar Valdez and the long hitting of Wellington Castillo. Castillo hit a three-run homerun in the fourth inning and Emilio Bonifacio went 4-4 to lead the Tigres to victory and join the Aguilas in the fourth and final play-off spot in the standings.

In San Francisco de Macoris the visiting Aguila Cibaenas, riding a six-game winning streak, came to a rude awakening as Fabio Castro pitched seven innings of three-hit, nine-strikeout baseballs and the Gigantes defeated the Aguilas 3-0.

In San Pedro de Macoris, lefthander Raul Valdez handcuffed the Estrellas for seven innings and Ricardo Nanita hit two doubles and batted in two runs as the Toros del Este defeated the Estrellas Orientales by a score of 4-0. The victory gives the Toros a two-game advantage over the Estrellas in the standings.
