Christmas bonus

Today marks the start of the government’s Christmas bonus payments (the so-called thirteenth salary) to the nation’s public servants, including pensioners and the military. They will also transfer the money to the decentralized institutions, according to the National Treasurer, Guaroa Guzman. Diario Libre reports that Guzman specified that central government employees would be paid RD$6.5 billion and the decentralized institutions will pay out RD$1.4 billion. The National Treasurer said that this means that Hacienda Minister Vicente Bengoa’s announcement is being fulfilled. Bengoa had told reporters that the Christmas bonus, the thirteenth salary check, would be paid to public employees during the first 10 days of December. More than 300,000 people will be receiving the second check.
