Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia expects tourism receipts for 2010 to have reached US$4.24 billion, making it the leading hard currency revenue producer in the country. He says preliminary data shows the year will close with a 4% growth compared to 2009. Tourist arrivals are expected to be 3% more than in 2009, according to preliminary statistical reports of the Central Bank. The Ministry of Tourism says that the government invested US$918.3 million in roads and other public works in tourism destinations.
