Making golf carts in the DR

The high cost of importing golf carts and lightweight tourist transport vehicles, primarily for inter-resort transportation, got entrepreneur Pablo Pineiro of Grupo Pineiro (of Bahia Principe all-inclusive hotels) thinking it made sense to manufacture them locally. The company plans to invest US$20 million in the new manufacturing plant. The new factory would employ around 400 people, making it a plus for the local economy.

Grupo Pineiro says that it already employs 10,000 people in its local hotels.

The new tourism vehicles would be sold to all hotel companies locally and could also be exported.

Pineiro says that in a first phase they would manufacture seven different models of the Turiscar. See a photo here: www.arecoa.com/index.php/Transportes/transporte-turistico-nueva-apuesta-del-grupo-pinero.html
