Washington Post travel write-up

This week’s Washington Post featured a report on travel to the Dominican Republic in a quest to prove the Lonely Planet guidebook wrong. “The DR isn’t an especially great destination for shoestring travelers,” was the Lonely Planet verdict, dismissing it as the land of all-inclusives.

Kevin Charles Redmon set himself a two-week target to see it all: town, country, highlands and coast, coffee farms and fisheries. In the process, he toured Santo Domingo (Colonial City) and Samana (Las Galeras and Playa Rincon).
