Santiago was one big noisy party last night as home team the Aguilas Cibaenas clinched the decisive game making it to the 2011-2012 Dominican Professional Winter Baseball Championship playoffs.
The Aguilas did the unbelievable, and came from behind, winning their last six games in the round robin series to gain a berth in the playoffs against the Escogido that begin this Saturday. The Aguilas defeated the Tigres del Licey at their home club in Santiago. The Aguilas were half a game away from being eliminated, when they began a winning spree that lead to their qualification.
After the final out, president and general manager of the club Winston Chilote and team manager Felix Fermin celebrated with a hearty hug. Soon to join them was Tony Pena, a legendary former player, who also jumped down to the field to greet his son, Francisco Pena, who had been the catcher for the evening, as reported by lidom.com.do
