The Caribbean League Series opens in Santo Domingo with a first game on Thursday, 2 February at 2pm matching Venezuela against Puerto Rico. Mexico plays against host Dominican Republic at 6pm. The series ends on Tuesday, 7 February.
The Dominican Republic has won 18 Caribbean Series pennants from 1971 to 2010. The most recent victories were in the 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2010 championships.
In this year’s tournament that opens on Thursday at the Quisqueya Ball Park in Santo Domingo, the Leones del Escogido are representing the DR. The Escogido has only won three of the 18 championships, in 1988, 1990 and 2010. The Tigres del Licey, also representing the city of Santo Domingo, has been the Dominican team to win most championships with 10.
