Sad numbers

A total of 43 women have been killed in three months. In the month of March alone, 19 women were killed in the Dominican Republic. The average age of the victims was 26. One of the most recent victims, who was just 21 was shot dead by a 47-year old man in Villa Tapia, along with her aunt who was also murdered. An article in Hoy newspaper says that the most violent provinces are Santo Domingo, Santiago and Puerto Plata. Most of the women were killed by their former husbands or partners, and five were killed by their husbands. Most were stabbed to death.
