PRD presidential candidate Hipolito Mejia has committed to a tax amnesty if he is elected President on 20 May 2012. He said the amnesty would benefit small companies, single owner companies and individuals, and property tax and would encompass both the income tax and the ITBIS. He said he would send a bill to Congress with the proposal if elected. “The measure seeks to help small and medium-sized businesses, many of which are on the verge of bankruptcy. This law will stimulate the economy and this sector that is the greatest generator of jobs,” he said.
He said the measure would enable thousands to get up to date on the payment of the fiscal commitments, free of penalties that are often greater than the tax they would have paid. He said the bill would also contemplate payment plans for others.
Diario Libre publishes a biography of the PRD candidate today, Tuesday 15 May.
