The president of the Dominican Chess Federation, Pedro Dominguez Brito has announced the celebration of a chess tournament with more than 25,000 players competing along a 5km stretch of the Malecon seafront boulevard in Santo Domingo. The event is planned for 12 August. The Embassy of Taiwan is co-sponsoring the event with a donation of 25,000 chess sets and 1,170 digital clocks. The current record is held by India, with 20,480 players at a 2010 event.
