Expedia, the leading online booking engine, says the DR is becoming more and more popular with US travelers. The company says that US travel is up 30%, making the Dominican Republic the second most popular destination for Americans to travel in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Dominican Republic is one of the best-served destinations in the Americas. Its Punta Cana International Airport has the largest variety of flights of any airport in the Caribbean. Miriam Hernandez says that attractive room rates, which “have remained mostly flat,” make it one of the best deals for getting to the beach this summer.
A recent Expedia Flip Flop report shows that beach travel is the number one choice of trip for Americans.
According to Expedia, their travelers usually book their trips to the DR 52 days in advance and come from New York, Miami, Boston, Philadelphia or Chicago.
66% will book travel for two adults, 14% will travel with children.
Punta Cana is the most popular booking destination, with more than 50% of all bookings. Santo Domingo draws roughly 13% of the bookings.
