Flamboyant trees in full bloom at the Botanical Gardens

Santo Domingo’s Botanical Gardens are probably the best of any city in the entire Caribbean and Central America. But from late May to August, there is the extra special treat of the vivid colors of the flamboyant trees that are planted along the perimeter fence that surrounds the two-square kilometer city park in full bloom. These vibrant trees are Santo Domingo’s tropical answer to the cherry tree blossoms of Washington and Tokyo. They make for great photography, especially on days when the blue of the sky contrasts with the intense red flowers. Here are some photographs to inspire you to head out to the Botanical Gardens.
