Dominican elections cost RD$1.5 billion

The presidential election and that of the overseas deputies cost Dominican taxpayers RD$1,522,422,181.75, according to a preliminary report from the Central Electoral Board (JCE). The breakdown for expenditures leading into the 20 May election is as follows:

Equipment: RD$38 million

Software: RD$3.9 million

Staff: RD$668.8 million

Communications: RD$38.8 million

Basic services: RD$9.98 million

Advertising: RD$183.28 million

Travel: RD$50.39 million

Locations rent: RD$15 million
