Baseball Season starts 14 October

Take note that winter professional baseball in the Dominican Republic this year begins earlier, on Sunday 14 October. The tournament is played in Santo Domingo (Quisqueya Ball Park), San Francisco de Macoris (Julian Javier Ball Park) and San Pedro de Macoris (Tetelo Vargas Ball Park), and La Romana (the Francisco Micheli) and Santiago (Cibao Ball Park) and runs through the first week of February 2013.

Baseball fans staying in Boca Chica and Juan Dolio can easily catch the action at the Santo Domingo or La Romana stadiums. Those staying in Samana can head to the San Francisco stadium. Those staying in Puerto Plata should plan for games at the Santiago ball park. Get together a group and get the hotel to arrange for a van. The driver will be more than happy to join you for the game and wait to take you there and back. He can also assist you in purchasing the tickets.

Games in Santo Domingo and San Francisco de Macoris start at 7:30pm from Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays, Sundays and holiday games will start at 5pm.

At the Santiago and La Romana stadiums, games will start at 7:30pm Monday to Saturday, and at 5pm on Sundays and holidays. In San Pedro, games will start at 8pm Monday to Saturday and on Sundays and holidays at 5pm.

This year, the semi-finals are scheduled to start 27 December. There will be no games on 31 December, and Mondays 1, 7 and 12 of January. The finals are held the last two weeks of January. MLB players join their local teams for the finals to help them win the right to represent the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series.
