President Fernandez will present the Dominican medalists at the XXX Olympic Games in London with their awards this afternoon, Tuesday 14 August. Felix Sanchez, the two-time gold medalist in the 400 meter hurdles will receive RD$10 million and the 400 meter sprinter Luguelin Santos, the silver medalist, will receive RD$6 million. According to El Nuevo Diario, Sports Minister Jay Payano and the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee are working together on a series of events that are being organized to welcome the new national heroes. Together with gymnast Yamilet Pena, injured TaeKwon-do fighter Gabriel Mercedes and the Dominican female volleyball team, the athletes received a rousing welcome at the Las Americas International Airport yesterday evening, Monday 13 August.
