Dance at Bellas Artes

The 8th Festival of Contemporary Dance (Edanco) opens at the Palace of the Fine Arts (Bellas Artes) in Santo Domingo on 18 September with performances of contemporary dance through 25 September. This year’s program includes dancers from Haiti, Spain, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Canada and the United States.

To back emerging talents, Edanco’s program includes the dancers who won the first five places at the Youth Dance Festival held every year during the Santo Domingo Book Fair. This year the festival will pay tribute to Dominican folklorists Nereyda Rodriguez (Fundacion Teatro Popular Danzante) who died last year and her dance partner Mirope Arvelo (Mirito).

The festival is also a time for master classes and workshops led by the visiting artists. See the Expo-Edanco photography exhibit at Bellas Artes, where a select group of photographers present their views on the festival.
