Chinese tourists and businesspeople welcomed

Minister of Tourism Francisco Javier Garcia has accepted the challenge of turning the Dominican Republic into the destination of choice for visitors from the People’s Republic of China. He said that attracting this emerging and growing market could make the difference in meeting the target of 10 million tourists announced by President Danilo Medina in his inaugural speech. The DR is the leading Caribbean destination with five million tourists expected by the end of this year. The Minister recently hosted a delegation from Guangdong province with the mission of exploring potential for increased business and travel. Guangdong, China’s most populous province is located on the South China Sea. Its industrial city Shenzhen is one of the most important in China and is located a close commute from Hong Kong.

The mission was headed by foreign trade director Gao Shoujian, as reported in Diario Libre.

“In the same way as we are the leading Caribbean destination for the Russians and the French, we have all the tools to become the destination of choice for the Chinese,” said Garcia.
