New domestic airport to be built

The director of the Airport Authority, Aristides Fernandez Zucco has announced that a new airport terminal will be built next to the Cueva de las Maravillas in San Pedro de Macoris province. In a meeting with authorities in San Pedro, he said that the aim is to encourage tourism, and that there would be around 8 to 10 flights a day. Tourists would arrive by air before being transported by road to the historic town of San Pedro and then sailing to the islands of Saona and Catalina.

He went on to say that similar terminals would also be built in Pedernales, Montecristi and Constanza.

He was joined by the Senator for San Pedro de Macoris Jose Maria Sosa, governor Felix De los Santos, mayor Tony Echavarria, chairman of the board of the Cueva de las Maravillas Foundation Julio Giraldez Casasnova, Central University of the East Rector Jose Hazim Frappier, General Manager of Coral Costa Caribe hotel Juan Dolio William Polanco, and Patricio Vigouraux Brzouc, director of the Barcelo Capella Beach Resort, also in Juan Dolio.

Zucco said that the new terminal would be built with a combination of public and private funding and that along with other domestic terminals it would make it easier for tourists to travel around the country and visit a wider range of attractions and natural resources.
