The Senate has announced the formation of a special committee to investigate the pensions system that certain State institutions have established to benefit their own employees, who will receive exorbitant amounts and privileges once they leave their posts.
The proposal was submitted by Felix Nova Paulino, the senator for Monsenor Nouel who pointed out that there has been a great deal of criticism of the size of the pensions over the last few days and that they are against the spirit of the law.
He went on to say that in a society where a large part of the population does not have even basic services from the state, it was untenable for certain State entities to award themselves such pensions and that they should be adjusted to take account of the country’s economic and social reality.
