Temistocles Montas, Minister of Economy, Planning and Development has announced that a meeting of the Economic and Social Committee will take place today, Thursday 4 October at the Presidential Palace, to debate the official taxation changes that will be presented for approval to Congress. President Danilo Medina will chair the meeting of the committee, which is headed by Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado and includes members from organizations representing all sectors of Dominican society
Montas said that President Medina had met with labor sector representatives and bankers to work out the best way to combine the requirements of the different parts of society.
He highlighted that although the government was asking for input and trying to find consensus on the tax plan, the final word would be down to National Congress.
As far as the International Monetary Fund was concerned, Montas said that an IMF delegation would be returning to the country in November to continue negotiations.
