CES: Tell us how the budget was spent

The Economic and Social Council (CES), the governmental consulting body, is asking the goverment for details of the budget execution from 2006 to date. It has set up a commission to investigate the causes of the fiscal deficit now estimated at more than RD$185 billion. After meeting for several hours, council chairman Agripino Nunez Collado said that the commission would be made up of three economists and three lawyers to investigate the facts behind the deficit.

“The members of the CES met to unify criteria and ask for a series of information on public spending, the government offices and payroll budgets to understand how the nation’s budget is spent,” said Nunez Collado. He said that the delegation would be directed by coordinator of Participacion Ciudadana Francisco Alvarez and was formed to promote measures aimed at preventing a repeat of the situation. The government has a day and a half to respond to the request. Lawyer Francisco Alvarez is representing civil society in the government consulting body.
