30 motorcycles, 51 radios for patrolling Colonial City

The government of Taiwan has made a major contribution to safety in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo. In a ceremony held yesterday, Thursday 11 October, Ambassador Tomas Ping-Fu Hou delivered 30 motorcycles to the Touristic Police (Politur). Taiwan donated US$100,000 for the purchase. The director of Politur, Brigade General Amilcar Fernandez Tejada said that the equipment would improve operational mobility and communication systems in vulnerable tourism areas. The plan aims to support tourism in the Colonial City. Fernandez Tejada said that an inventory of the basic needs of the institution and a strategic plan for integrated security in all tourism centers is being developed. Tourist police receive special training from the institution so they can better serve visitors.
