Electricity generators will talk

The recent flurry of threats to renegotiate some of the electricity generation contracts has met with solid rejection from the generators affiliated to the Dominican Association of the Electricity Industry (ADIE). The Association vice president Milton Morrison told Listin Diario’s economy section writer Jairon Severino that they are not willing to renegotiate the contracts for the purchase and sale of electricity because they are the result of public, international tenders issued at the time of the capitalization and signed in agreement with the Dominican state. Morrison made this point clear, adding that the price of electricity is established in the General Law of Electricity and is transparent. He warned that the Dominican Republic would lose much more than it could gain if it tried to change the contracts that were signed. He suggested issuing new international tenders in order to attract new investments and diversify the energy base. He added that the generators are willing to go to the discussion table to talk about this.
