Medina “drops in” on area affected by lakes

President Danilo Medina made a surprise visit, something he apparently likes to do, according to El Nuevo Diario, to the area affected by the rising levels of the Azuei and Enriquillo lakes in the south west of the country. The visit took officials of the province of Independencia by surprise, and most of them only found out about it after it was over. The President visited the towns of El Limon and Boca de Cachon and spoke to small-scale farmers at the AC-129 Agrarian Reform project in El Limon de Duverge. From there Medina went to Jimani on the Haitian border before continuing to Boca de Cachon. The Dominican leader spoke to local people, promising to get their fields back into production and to try and fix the houses that were damaged by tropical storm Isaac some months ago. Some local officials hurried to the scene when they learned that the President was there, and the people kept repeating the campaign slogan: “Do what has never been done.”
