Urban merengue singer Omega has been released from San Pedro de Macoris jail. Firstly however, he was taken to court in Santiago where he had a pending case for non-payment of debts. He had been declared in contempt of court there as he had not appeared on the date for the hearing, but that decision was reversed and a new date set for November 21. He was then returned to San Pedro and released at 9:30pm.
On his release he said that even though his rights had been violated and his sentencing was illegal, he bore no malice against the dancer, July Mercedes Lopez who was responsible for his incarceration.
El Dia quotes Lopez as saying that the events have strengthened them as a couple and they are planning a wedding that will take place within a few weeks.
