US$4 million spent to make payroll more transparent

The government has invested US$4 million in new software that promises to make the public payroll more transparent and control spending in government departments. Manuel Labrado, the Inter-American Development Bank representative in the DR presented the program to the press yesterday, Thursday 18 October, together with Minister of Public Administration Ramon Ventura. Ventura Camejo says that the software will contribute to modernizing public administration and strengthening institutions. Each public employee will be entered into the system, with information on their wage, salary and qualifications. So far the system has registered 223,000 of the 270,000 central government employees. Ventura said that the plan is for the system to cover the decentralized institutions and the municipal governments as well, as reported in Diario Libre.
